The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot from your heel to the base of your toes. Overuse or prolonged wear and tear on the heel can strain this band causing damage, inflammation, and pain. Pain under the heel is most frequently associated with a condition known as plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis affects both athletic and inactive individuals and can be triggered by any number of factors or activities that overload or overstretch the plantar fascia. Risk factors for plantar fasciitis include foot arch problems, a tight Achilles tendon, and tight calf muscles. Additionally, certain sports, exercises, being overweight, as well as worn or poorly constructed shoes may contribute to the problem. Plantar fasciitis is common among athletes who run and jump a lot. Runners in particular often complain of plantar heel pain.
Symptoms of plantar fasciitis can occur suddenly or gradually and can be quite painful. The most common symptom is pain and stiffness in the bottom of the heel. While an individual with plantar fasciitis may experience pain that is dull or sharp, sometimes aching or burning on the bottom of the foot is felt. In many cases, a heel spur is also present.
Once our podiatrist has determined that your heel pain is in fact due to plantar fasciitis, the appropriate treatment will be recommended. Most individuals will experience improvements with conservative therapy alone. If symptoms are disabling and persist even after an extended course of conservative therapy, other methods of care may be considered.
When heel pain persists for several months or even years and does not respond to conservative treatments, your foot doctor may recommend a minimally invasive procedure like TENEX™.
TENEX™ is a minimally invasive procedure designed to address chronic tendon pain using advanced ultrasound
technology. Here’s how it works:
This quick, outpatient procedure typically takes less than 20 minutes and is performed under IV sedation. TENEX™ has proven highly effective in treating chronic tendon conditions like plantar fasciitis. Studies show that patients experience significant pain relief and improved functionality after undergoing TENEX™.
Plantar fasciitis often results from repetitive stress on the plantar fascia, leading to microtears and inflammation. While traditional treatments—such as rest, ice, stretching, and physical therapy—can help, they may take time and don't always provide significant relief.
TENEX™ offers a more precise approach:
With minimal downtime, most patients return to normal activities shortly after the procedure.
TENEX™ offers several advantages, including:
If you’ve been struggling with plantar fasciitis and other treatments have failed, TENEX™ could be a viable option. Your podiatrist can help determine if you’re a good candidate. Ideal candidates are typically in good overall health and have chronic tendon pain that hasn’t responded to conservative treatments.
Addictiomal Information:
TENEX™ can be performed under local anesthetic, IV sedation.. The ultrasonic burr effectively breaks up scar tissue, calcifications, and diseased tissue in the plantar fascia while boosting blood supply to accelerate healing. This outpatient procedure lasts about 10-20 minutes and 1-2 stiches,

Minimally invasive bunion surgery is an alternative to traditional surgery that reduces post-surgical scarring, swelling, and pain and offers a faster recovery.
PROstep MIS is a minimally invasive procedure that removes your bunions using tiny tools and incisions. The techniques used in this procedure ensure you’ll recover more quickly than traditional surgery, as you’ll have less swelling, fewer scars, and less pain.
After the PROstep MIS, you’ll need far less pain medication during your recovery. Within days, you’ll be back on your feet on your feet and doing most of your daily routine with a special walking boot.
